Ahhh July! My favorite month of the year. Simply because we celebrate three of our families birthdays over the course of two weeks and we are almost always spending time in Northern Michigan.
This month, we are celebrating FOJ in Northern Michigan and then popping back for George’s birthday celebrations with friends and then off to Wisconsin for the big kids first ever concert. I’m SO EXCITED.
I’ll be pulling from my European wardrobe for most of the month’s events but there is a nostalgia in Northern Michigan and Wisconsin that doesn’t really get captured in a Euro Summer wardrobe so I made a quick mood board to inspire my packing for this month.
A few notes about the board:
First, I had been adamant that the boat shoe trend was not for me. Then I got a targeted ad showing the designer version that I had long liked because they look more loafer than boat shoes, were in fact 65% percent off. So I ordered them to see what I thought. Turns out I love them and cannot stop wearing them. SO if you want to invest in boat shoes, I can’t say enough good things about the Bally’s Plume boat shoes. If you’re looking for a very budget friendly alternative than I would scoop up these. Either way, I’ve been extremely impressed with how much they go with (you’ll see them a lot below!).
Second, I have been a longtime fan of the Great. But in recent years, I’ve hardly purchased anything from their new drops. I’m not sure why - probably just over saturated my wardrobe. But the recent summer collection seems to be striking a major cord with me and I’ve recently bought a few items that I’m wearing nonstop. First is just a simple navy tee. Second is this fish cardigan which I just had to have after writing about the fisherman aesthetic back in January. And lastly the smooth sailing red punchy graphic on a grey crewneck was a no brainer - I just had to wait for it to restocked because it keeps selling out!
Also here’s some recent snapshots of outfits I’ve worn recently and loved!
The most perfect black dress ever. This dress will literally work all year round and I’m excited to style it throughout the seasons. For summer, this Alémais scarf is the perfect compliment to make the black feel summery and not too heavy. Mine seems to be unavailable but I found a few similar options on their site.
The Gap set I can’t get enough of! Somehow still in stock too so I would grab this before it’s gone. Here are the shorts and the top (both the shorts and shirt run true to size and have the perfect amount of slouch).
I *always* underestimate the strength of a simple outfit. It’s so good! This is my go to white shirt but the outfit is really all about the accessories: boat shoes and red cat eye sunnies. This would make a very elevated FOJ outfit if it’s a little chilly for fireworks (a red sweater over the shoulders would be great too!).
The summer polo everyone needs. This will defintiely be going to NoMi with me. I’m in a size one (my go to size in The Great aka size small).
The chicest road trip outfit you can find (but feels like pajamas). The set is sold out but you can still snag the shorts which I wear a lot with tanks or crewneck sweatshirts too. For me, it’s the blue and green combo that feels really fresh.
A Natalie Martin dress I forgot I had in Michigan. So happy to have rediscovered and it feels brand spankin’ new with my white sunglasses and paracord necklace. This print is very similar to the one I'm wearing. I take an XS in the Fiore dress!
An outfit so good and so easy that I wore it twice in three days. If you’re looking for something to buy this summer, I strongly (again) suggest a vibrant silk scarf. I have been wearing this Alémais scarf that I found in London with everything and absolutely loving how it has elevated my simple basics (and I’ve already mentioned it twice in this post!). Also don’t sleep on a navy t-shirt. Much more kid friendly than the oh so popular white tee and looks just as amazing with denim.
And once again, it’s all about the accessories. I’m loving my paracord choker necklace paired with my every day Ariel Gordon pendant. My close friends gifted me the choker for my 40th birthday and I’m absolutely obsessed. It adds an instant cool factor to every look.
Can’t wait to bring you along on our crazy month!
Talk soon xx
Kate: Just stumbled upon your work and consider me hooked. I love your style so much. I just rocked a silk scarf over my shoulders like you and I felt super cool. I love the way you style each look and the colors that make it pop. Can’t wait to follow along for more. Xo
