This past weekend, I felt like my entire feed was about TikTok going dark. And while I’m not a 20 something influencer who makes their livelihood on TikTok, I am a big fan of the platform. I find TikTok to be where I like to consume content more than create, and I find the vast array of how to’s, vlogs, and pop culture trends to be seriously addicting. It’s also where I love to get all my trend content - so the idea of losing access to that content in particular was a bit worrisome. From viral Christmas trees to the new aesthetics of the season, I get so much trend inspo from TikTok.
Once I find a trend that speaks to me on TikTok, I go straight to Pinterest and start gathering images so I can hone in on what elements of the trends I am gravitating to. This year the two trends I’m loving are: Fisherman Core and what I’m calling Town & Country (i.e. the 90s Polo Ralph Lauren aesthetic).
For Fisherman Core, I could not find a collage or board that really captured the elements I most loved. And as someone who lives in a little coastal fishing town for part of the year, I was anxious to find a perfect visual. Turns out the perfect image was in my own photo library and the board I was looking for was in my head:
FISHERMAN CORE :: Shop the looks here.
From cable knits, to canvas chore jackets, fair isle sweaters, and my long loved Boat & Tote, this trend was made for me. When I see this, I think of cool summer nights in Leland. This photo is from the end of the dock in Fish Town that is my favorite place to watch the sunset. Something about the quiet of the fishing boats and the hard rocks of the marina - it’s truly my happy place. And these are my happy clothes (lol).
On my to buy list: dark brown boat shoes (I like these Miu Miu dupes.)
TOWN & COUNTRY :: Shop the looks here.
The Town & Country vibe encapsulates several trends at once: Ralph Lauren vibes, Old Money aesthetic, and nods to the 90s. I like a more sporty take on those trends and felt like I couldn’t find anything that visually represented that. So here’s my take: I like the country palette offset with unexpected accessories like Gazelles and tinted aviators. I’m definitely really vibing on the Polo Bear and I’ve been stalking re-sell sites trying to find a thrifted one.
On my to buy list: silver statement earrings, Polo Bear socks and dark green sneakers
Also, just a reminder - trends are fun! They are a way to stay feeling fresh and add little new elements to your personal style. There’s many trends that are now cornerstones to my own personal style (Birkenstocks, Sambas, sweater over shoulders) so you never know when you might find something that feels so you. I like to use accessories to signal trends so that it’s not as big of an investment!
What other trends are you guys excited about this year? Anything you want me to make for you to see?
And if you’re not following me on Pinterest, you can find me here. I’ll be saving all of my collages to a board there and have a great collection of outfit styling ideas saved there too!
