Wow, we’re already here: it’s the first week of May! Like whaaaat?! We’ve got exactly four weeks until we leave for our two week European adventure and I feel like a shot clock to summer has started.
Like I mentioned in my Spring mood boards post, I have been finding endless inspiration this season. I cant’ quite nail down why I’m feeling so creatively inspired but I’m guessing it’s a multitude of things: living in a new town, the decor of our new house, planning a trip to Europe, working on a new project I’m really excited about (more coming on that so soon!)
It’s been SO HARD not showing you guys the items I’ve been purchasing. I’m not usually one to gate keep, but I’m trying to keep the Europe content under wraps for now. However, for all my summer plans….I wanted to share the three people that I’ve been referencing the most as I build out my summer wardrobe essentials.
With Wishbone Kitchen’s new cookbook here, I’ve been loving the outfits that coordinate with the book’s food and aesthetics. Meredith is a Doén girly so it’s a not a huge stretch for me to love her looks as I’m also a major fan of the brand. Her new cookbook arrived yesterday and I’m already deep into it but the coastal New England vibes in the book are speaking to my lakeshore Northern Michigan life.
I already ordered the Doén top from the Wishbone Kitchen board and it’s SO GOOD. I love it tucked into my baggy jeans for right now and then will definitely style with denim cut offs or a white maxi skirt for the height of summer.
Sofia Richie’s summer style is the best blend of girly with an edge. She’s an excellent example of how accessories can be used to “edge up” a look. I’ve had her blue striped swim coverup saved in my phone since her honeymoon two years ago. It’s an outfit I reference each summer. This year I did a loose interpretation with this oversized button down. Many of these looks are from Sofia’s summer in 2023 but still feel so fresh. That’s the same goal we’re going for in our own wardrobes - timeless yet fresh.
I already ordered the burgundy velvet ballet flats from the Sofia board and they are PHENOMENAL! I went with double strap version and they are so flattering on! They are also insanely comfortable and look far more expensive than they are. I was stunned at how good they were IRL. Not sure what took me so long to try these viral shoes! Shown above with a look I’ve styled for a Peppa Pig themed day in London.
A closer up look for you to see the color. I plan to wear this with all my boho dresses and white maxi skirt this summer.
And last up is Emilie Kiser’s beloved wardrobe and life on TikTok. It seemed every grown woman was entranced when Emilie had her second son, but I was mostly impressed by how much of an effort she was making to get dressed and do her hair/makeup routine in the first few days home from the hospital. This touches on the concept from my Mother's Day Gift Guides Substack which is the importance of getting dressed/ready every day because of the impact it has on our mental health. Emilie has been a great example of that this past month.
I ordered the Dôen floral dress from the Emilie board, and damn was it good. I needed a Dôen dress like a hole in the head but it’s not going back. I have family photos on the beach in Northern Michigan in July and this is the perfect dress for that. And it’s going to Europe too because it’s just that good and that comfortable.
In her non maternity style, Emilie loves Reformation and that’s an amazing brand to scan for classic summer pieces. Reformation’s gingham is always a personal fave that will never go out of style. We are all about being a minimalist cool girl each summer because the practicality of caring for children in hot weather cannot be understated.
And with that, you can start to see the through line in the summer boards themes: Dôen girly meets cool minimalistic mom mode.
Kind of like this look from this past week that so many of you loved on IG:
The studded flats really make this look sing, and while they are an investment - I’ve worn them nonstop since I bought them last fall (very comfortable too).
Lastly, I’ve got my eye on the Emi Jay hair clip that Emilie has been wearing nonstop in her TikToks. It totally screams beach day to me. It’s one of those things I really don’t need but still want. This is another hair clip I really don’t need but still really want. Somebody take the internet away from me..!
