Mother’s Day is one of my most favorite days of the year. I love getting to pause and soak up the moment of being a mom. It has changed me in every way possible and it’s nice to celebrate the person I have become in the last 9 years.
With the holiday just around the corner, I am compiling two round ups of my favorite gifts to give (and receive) on Mother’s Day. The first is for any mom or motherly figure - there’s truly something for everyone. The second is for my pregnant mamas. I have a few friends right now that are expecting and I made this with them in mind. It’s hard to buy gifts for a person with an ever changing body so these are my tried and true items after three pregnancies and three postpartum periods.
First, let’s get the vibes right. I love having a reason to get a bit dressed up on Mother’s Day as we typically enjoy a late afternoon meal out with our families. The only thing I ever want on Mother’s Day is a semi decent photo with my kids (seriously). And Chris always manages to capture a good one, which is increasingly harder and harder to do (thank you babe!!).
I will be channeling a mix of Wishbone Kitchen/Emilie Kiser Doén vibes with Sofia Richie boss babe for this Mother’s Day. Like I mentioned, we almost always go to a 4pm reservation out on Mother’s Day. It’s my favorite way to celebrate because we can get dressed up, enjoy a glass of wine, no dishes or cooking and we’re still home with plenty of time for a relaxed bedtime routine. Last year, however my mom treated us to the Lion King Broadway show that came through town and that was SO FUN.

Ok first round up gift ideas for any mom or motherly figure in your life:
Let’s start off with my overall feelings on gifts. I prefer to give and get accessories. Clothes feel sooooo personal. I prefer for people to pick out their own clothes and for me to pick out mine (unless they ask me for a link!). But since I believe that an outfit is made through one’s accessories, I love to give my favorite accessories of the season to the people in my life.
This season I’m all about a silk scarf over my outfits, the perfect warm weather replacement to my sweater styling, so I’ve been on the hunt for a second hand silk scarf. I have my eye on a few from TheRealReal and that’s what I’m asking my boys for this Mother’s Day.
I’m also obsessed with all things French at the moment so I have a bag from Rue de Verneuil at the top of my must buy list for Paris. Thankfully you can find them quite easily stateside as well. I love the ease of a canvas tote for summer and this feels more elevated than my typical L.L. Bean Boat & Tote. And according to my go-to expert on all things Paris, chunky New Balance sneakers are everywhere in the City of Light (Habitually Chic has been reporting on the French uniform on her IG this month).
The books on my radar for May are Ina’s not so new memoir, and the highly anticipated Wishbone Kitchen cookbook debut. I’m a big Wishbone Kitchen fan so some of Meredith’s looks from her new book have inspired my wardrobe for summer: including these Birk clogs, and her go to summer beauty product: the Dior Forever Glow Star filter (this is a 10/10).
Speaking of beauty products, Mother’s Day is the perfect time to gift some amazing products that maybe Mom wouldn’t pay for herself. My indulgent favorites are this moisturizer, my red light contour device, and my new signature scent.
And last but certainly not least: my heavy hitters. These gifts are guaranteed to please: a bouquet of flowers, the best sun hat, the cutest mini bag, a candle that says it all, and summery sunglasses. And of course my most worn items of all: my blue light glasses and my treasured Imperial Disc from Ariel Gordon.
Now for my expecting Mamas! Oof, what a time! With an ever changing body, it’s down right impossible to shop for an expecting mom. Which is why many people opt into buying something for the baby instead. But I promise, buying something for the expectant mom instead of the baby, lands harder. You quickly realize when you’re pregnant that people around you get preoccupied with how the baby is doing and less about how you're doing. Which is usually not great, because you feel like crap and feel overwhelmed at the situation ahead (all normal).
Like anything, I found that when I took the time to get properly dressed when I was pregnant and postpartum - my mental state improved dramatically. Many people know me for my love of Natalie Martin dresses, and that’s because in the 9 years I was having children - I lived in the Natalie Martin Fiore dresses. All my boys were born in the late summer or early Fall meaning I was 8-9 months pregnant for the hottest months of the year …ALL THREE TIMES. I couldn’t have survived without the Natalie Martin dresses. If I was pregnant now, I’d be living in this dress.
I also never took off the Target maternity tanks that I owned at least 3-5 of in neutral colors (black, grey and white). These are the unsung heroes of a pregnancy and also great for breast feeding as you can easily pull them down. I lived in these tanks with biker shorts. Now I would layer the super oversized Gap cotton button down over that base to make it feel current and cute. Pair with summer sneakers and cool girl sunnies and you’re on your way to being the most stylish pregnant babe out there.
Honorable mentions that I’d be purchasing if I was pregnant right now: the Leset carpenter pants and the Hatch Bateau top. Both of these would transitional seamlessly into Fall too!
My last month of being pregnant with Felix. Wearing the Fiore Maxi in an old print. I look back on this so fondly now but I was pretty miserable at the time haha!
Wishing you all the most wonderful Mother’s Day and sending love and tenderness to all those that struggle with this day.
Hope you enjoy xx
Kate
